After a long winter, it’s finally time for some
sunnier skies—it’s almost summer! The Summer Solstice is on Saturday, June 20.
The solstice is the day where the sun reaches its highest point in the Northern
Hemisphere. Since it’s the longest day of the year, there’s no better time to
get in even more food and fun! We wanted to commemorate this special, sunny
occasion with some of our very own summer favorites from our Spinnaker Bay
Baltimore is home to so many wonderful spots to
cool off and be one with nature. Tiffany Cross, Resident Concierge loves the
Sandlot in Baltimore and Patapsco State Park. Lauren
Younes, Property Manager, loves to spend time outdoors by hitting the
hiking trails, especially the Billy Goat trail. There are lots of great places
to hike North of the city as well. Parks like Patterson Park, Canton Waterfront, Druid Hill
Park and Federal Hill Park are all great places to
enjoy an evening stroll, riding bikes at sunset along the harbor, or enjoy a
picnic under a shady tree.
No matter what activity you choose, you’ve got
to be prepared with the right accessories. Taylor Anspach, Sales and Marketing
Associate, always makes sure to pack a pair of sunglasses. Other essentials
include your favorite comfy flip flops or sandals, chapstick, bug spray
(especially if you’re hiking or in a wooded area), and of course, sunscreen
Many members of our staff love visiting Rehoboth
Beach for a weekend getaway. On a hot summer day, there is nothing better than
taking a trip to the beach! Ocean City is another popular destination, just
over two and a half hours by car from Spinnaker.
Can’t get to the beach? Stuck in the office? Set
the summer-y mood no matter the weather by cueing up some songs that will
instantly transport you to an “Island in the Sun,” which just so happens to be
the favorite summer song of Elizabeth Peroutka, Sales and Marketing Associate!
Other tunes include “Escape” by Rupert Holmes and “Beautiful People” by Ed
Sheeran. Spotify has tons of pre-made playlists with summer jams too!
Watching a movie full of summer fun is another
great way to celebrate the season without leaving the comfort of home. Classics
like The Parent Trap and Dirty Dancing are always a hit. If you
haven’t already seen them, we also love Beaches,
Summer Catch, and Little Miss
One of the best parts about summer is the food and drinks. We love Jimmy’s Famous Seafood, Nick’s Fish House and Philip’s for some classic Maryland crabs. Cooling off with a refreshing beverage during Happy Hour in Harbor East is hard to beat. We love Loch Bar for the water views, Ouzo Beach for live music, Taco Fiesta for fantastic frozen margs, and James Joyce Irish Pub for an endless array of ales on tap.
For dessert, one of our absolute favorite local spots for ice cream is Bmore Licks, which serves up some of the best homemade ice cream in Baltimore. Plus, they have so many different flavors that (ice) scream summer, like Hazelnut S’mores and Watermelon Chocolate Chip. Snowballs from SnOasis or Quality Snowballs by Hoopla Hospitality are also a great option.
Spinnaker Bay family to yours, we hope you have a great summer!
